Grady Health System Residents (2009-2010)

 


Derrick Clay, PharmD is a PGY-2 Emergency Medicine Specialty resident. He received his Doctor of Pharmacy degree from Temple University in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He completed his PGY-1 pharmacy residency at Grady Health System. His primary interests include emergency medicine, toxicology, and the study of adverse drug reactions. Upon completion of his specialty residency he plans to pursue a clinical specialist position in emergency medicine.


Brandon Paul Hobbs, PharmD is a PGY-2 Critical Care Specialty resident. He received his Doctor of Pharmacy from the University of Tennessee Health Science Center in Memphis and completed his PGY-1 pharmacy residency at Grady Health System. Prior to his Doctor of Pharmacy, he received a Bachelor of Science in Biology from Rhodes College followed by three years of research at St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital in Memphis. His primary interests are critical care and emergency medicine. Upon completion of his residency, he plans to pursue a clinical specialist position in critical care.


Aryan John Rahbar, PharmD is a PGY-2 Critical Care Specialty Resident. He received his Doctor of Pharmacy from the University of Tennessee Health Science Center in Memphis and completed his PGY-1 pharmacy residency at Grady Health System. Prior to his Doctor of Pharmacy, he received his Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from the University of Tennessee, Knoxville. His primary interests include critical care, emergency medicine, and infectious disease. Upon completion of his residency, he plans to pursue a clinical specialist position in critical care.


Rebekah Evelyn Thomas, PharmD is a PGY-2 internal medicine resident. She received her Doctor of Pharmacy degree from Drake University College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences in Des Moines, Iowa and completed her PGY-1 pharmacy residency at Grady Health System . Her primary interests include internal medicine and cardiology. Upon completion of her residency she plans to pursue a clinical specialist position in internal medicine.


Derek Austin Burden is a PGY-1 pharmacy resident. He received his Doctor of Pharmacy degree from the University of Kentucky College of Pharmacy in Lexington, Kentucky. His primary interests include critical care and emergency medicine. Upon completion of his pharmacy practice residency he plans to pursue a specialty residency in critical care.


Tanea Chane, PharmD is a PGY-1 pharmacy resident. She received her Doctorate of Pharmacy from Mercer University College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences. Prior to her Doctorate of Pharmacy, she received a Bachelor of Science in Biology from Spelman College in Atlanta, GA. Her primary interests include infectious disease and emergency medicine. Her research project will focus on evaluating warfarin management in HIV patients at the Infectious Disease Program (IDP) clinic of Grady Health System. Upon completion of her pharmacy practice residency, she plans to pursue a specialty residency.


Tai Houtz is a PGY-1 pharmacy resident. She received her Doctor of Pharmacy degree from the University of Kansas School of Pharmacy in Lawrence, Kansas. Her primary interests include emergency medicine, toxicology, and critical care. Her research project focuses on evaluating the characteristics of patients upon presentation of HIV-associated nephropathy. Upon completion of her pharmacy practice residency she plans to pursue a specialty residency in emergency medicine.


Elim Ijo, PharmD is a PGY-1 pharmacy resident. She was born and raised in Vancouver, British Columbia and attended the University of British Columbia for her undergraduate studies. She received her Doctor of Pharmacy degree from Wingate University in Wingate, North Carolina. Her primary interests include internal medicine and infectious diseases. Currently, she is conducting a research project comparing the cost-effectiveness of loading fosphenytoin versus oral phenytoin at Grady Health System's Emergency Care Center. Upon completion of her pharmacy practice residency she plans to pursue further specialized training.


Tze-chun Vivian Liao, PharmD is a PGY1 pharmacy resident. She received her Doctor of Pharmacy degree from Midwestern University: College of Pharmacy-Glendale in Glendale, Arizona. Prior to completing the Doctor of Pharmacy degree, she received her Bachelor of Arts in biochemistry from Oberlin College in Ohio. Her primary interests are emergency medicine, critical care, toxicology, and infectious disease. Her research project focuses on evaluating medication errors in HIV patients on antiretroviral therapy admitted to Grady Memorial Hospital. Upon completion of her pharmacy practice residency, she plans to pursue a specialty residency.


Jennifer Ann Shannon is a PGY-1 primary care pharmacy practice resident. She received her Doctor of Pharmacy from Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond, Virginia. Prior to her Doctor of Pharmacy, she received a Bachelor of Science in Biology and a minor in Chemistry from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University (Virginia Tech) in Blacksburg, Virginia. Her primary interests include dyslipidemia, diabetes, hypertension, and heart failure. Her research project will assess the impact of the multi-disciplinary Lipid Specialty Clinic interventions on assisting Grady Health System patients in achieving their LDL goal according to the NCEP/ATP III guidelines. Upon completion of her pharmacy practice residency, she plans to practice as a clinical pharmacist in an ambulatory care setting.
