The Fulton-DeKalb Hospital Authority

Description:
Established by Act of the Georgia General Assembly in 1941. The authority was created by Resolution of the Board of Commissioners, Aug. 6, 1941, to oversee the operations of Grady Health System.

Membership/Appointment:
Consists of 10 members. The Fulton County Board of Commissioners appoints seven members and the DeKalb County Board of Commissioners appoints three.

Term:
Staggered terms of four years

Meetings:
Bi-monthly on the 4th Monday of the month

 

Pamela S. Stephenson, Esq.

  • Education: Undergraduate degree: Eastern Michigan University and the University of Michigan; two master's degrees: University of Michigan; law degree: Woodrow Wilson College of Law.
  • Background: Managing partner, Stephenson Reynolds Law Group, LLC. Was elected to the Georgia General Assembly in 2002 as a Democrat. Formerly executive director of the State Health Planning agency; served on the State Medical Education Board.

  • Background: CEO of National Scholarship Service, giving students access to colleges and financial aid. Formerly administrator at Atlanta Southside Health Center for 10 years.

Michael R. Hollis, Esq.

  • Education: Undergraduate degree cum laude: Dartmouth College; law degree: University of Virginia
  • Background: Lawyer and entrepreneur who was born at Grady. Founded now-defunct Air Atlanta, the country's first African-American-controlled jet airline. Recently completed a contract with U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development to manage the housing authority of the U.S. Virgin Islands. Founding trustee of Clark Atlanta University, member of the Emory University Board of Visitors.

Frank Monteith

  • Appointed: 2005 (DeKalb)
  • Education: Undergraduate degree cum laude: Northwestern University; attended John Marshall School of Law
  • Background: Owns and operates Atlanta Livery Co., a limousine service; joint venture partner of AAA/ Atlanta Parking Co. Former board member of Southside Medical Center, Atlanta Business League, Victory Savings Bank, and former president of the Georgia Limousine Association. Member of the Metro Atlanta Chamber of Commerce and the Atlanta Convention and Visitors Bureau.

Richard L. Teters, Jr.

  • Background: Entrepreneur. Retired U.S. Army colonel with background in sales and marketing, finance and accounting, and information technology. Has taught at Kennesaw State University; former vice chairman of the Fulton County Community Zoning Board.

Daniel J. Whitner, Jr., D.D.S.

  • Background: Endodontist. Was born at Grady. Practices for Dental Care Alliance in Kennesaw after 31 years of private practice in Atlanta. Former part-time assistant clinical professor at the now-defunct Emory University School of Dentistry. Retired lieutenant colonel, U.S. Army Reserves; past president, Georgia Dental Society.
