Residency Program Information:

PGY-2 Critical Care Specialty Residency

Residents participating in the critical care specialty residency at Grady Health System have a myriad of learning experiences at their disposal, as trauma and critical care have been identified as one of our seven "Centers of Excellence". The university-based environment coupled with exposure to the diverse populations of critically ill patients provides the resident with ample opportunities to develop a clinical knowledge base and skills for successful independent practice. It also imparts an appreciation for the role of the clinical pharmacist specialist in the care of the critically ill.

Applicants to the critical care specialty residency must have completed, or be in the process of completing, a PGY-1 pharmacy residency. The decision to continue in a second year of residency training demonstrates the resident's commitment to professional growth and development. That commitment is taken seriously by Grady preceptors, who are full-time clinicians with an expertise in critical care, and are dedicated to assisting the resident through an intensive year of focused training.

Neurosurgical ICUInfectious Diseases
Pharmacokinetics Emergency Medicine
Toxicology/Poison Control Nephrology
Burn UnitNeonatal ICU (Level IV)

Requirements for application to the critical care specialty residency program:

General Requirements

  1. Doctor of Pharmacy degree from an accredited college of pharmacy
  2. Successful completion of an accredited PGY-1 pharmacy residency
  3. Personal and leadership qualifications for successful completion of a specialty residency
  4. Eligibility for licensure in the state of Georgia

Specific Requirements (note deadlines)

  1. A Letter of Interest postmarked no later than Friday, Dec. 26, 2007 stating why the applicant desires a specialty residency at Grady Health System
  2. The following must be postmarked by Monday, Dec. 29, 2007:
    1. Current Curriculum Vitae (include completed and anticipated residency rotations)
    2. Official pharmacy school transcripts
    3. Four (4) references completed on the Recommendation Request Form. Note: the recommendation form must be completed and should accompany a letter of reference.
      1. Three recommendations must be from preceptors who taught the resident during a PGY-1 pharmacy residency rotation
      2. One recommendation must be from the residency director
    4. Residency Questionnaire
  3. Applicants invited for an on-site interview will be required to present a professional presentation on a topic related to clinical pharmacy practice (may present residency research project if some data collection and analysis has been completed)
