DAISY Award
Grady Health System is honored to partner with The DAISY Foundation to recognize extraordinary and compassionate nursing care. The prestigious DAISY Award is presented to a registered nurse who has shown extraordinary compassion and care that patients, families, nurses, doctors and other staff proudly recognize.
DAISY stands for Diseases Attacking the Immune System. The DAISY Award was established in 2000 by the Barnes family in memory of J. Patrick Barnes, who died from complications of Idiopathic Thrombocytopenic Purpura (ITP) at the age of 33. According to the Barnes Family, "the one really positive thing we could hold onto from the experience of Pat's eight week illness was the skillful and amazingly compassionate care he received from his nurses - even when he was totally sedated."
Please help us honor a special nurse by sharing a specific story about a very specific situation in which a nurse has shown compassion, caring, respect and dedication to patients and/or their families.
The DAISY Award recipient will be recognized during a surprise public ceremony and will receive:
- A beautiful bouquet of white daisies
- A beautiful certificate inside a special engraved portfolio
- A DAISY lapel pin to wear daily
- A hand-carved stone sculpture entitled: A Healer's Touch (made by artists of the Shona Tribe in Zimbabwe)
- Boxes of Cinnabon's cinnamon rolls to share with their colleagues
Patients, families, visitors, employees and physicians are encouraged to nominate a deserving RN by filling out this nomination form.
The Daisy Award at Grady Health System would not be possible without the support of The Daisy Foundation. For more information: The Daisy Foundation, PO Box 788, Glen Ellen, CA 95442 or www.daisyfoundation.org.
