Advanced Practice Registered Nurses (APRNs)
Advanced practice registered
nurses (APRNs) have been practicing at Grady Health System (GHS)
for over 33 years. There are certified nurse anesthetists (CRNAs),
nurse midwives, nurse practitioners and psychiatric clinical nurse specialists.
APRNs are licensed and authorized by the Georgia Board of Nursing to perform
advanced nursing functions and certain medical procedures. Additionally, they
are privileged through the Office of Medical Affairs.
There are approximately 100 APRNs working in the health system. They work in
the breast center, diabetes, infectious disease, medical, neighborhood, pediatric,
teen services and women's health clinics. They also work in the operating room,
neonatology, prenatal, labor and delivery and emergency care.
APRNs have representatives on the Nursing Leadership Council. There is an Advanced
Practice Council that meets the 1st Tuesday of the month. The council
supports the message and vision of GHS, promotes the role of advanced
practice nurses and facilitate organizational participation and relationships.
It is also the intent to make sure skills of APRNs are maximized to benefit patients
and allow for efficient and effective performance in GHS.
